Apart from the George Soros issue, the question of who will be convenor has also divided the INDIA bloc as support grows for Mamata Banerjee to take over

“Don’t budge" — That’s the message Rahul Gandhi gave to all Congress MPs at his meeting with them. And on cue, just after the meeting was over, Congress leaders gathered at Parliament’s Makar Dwaar to protest once again on the Adani issue in a “unique" manner. This despite the fact that many within the party are not on the same page as Gandhi on the issue resonating with the masses.
Sources say Rahul Gandhi, as Leader of Opposition (LoP), told his party colleagues to be prepared well for the Constitution Day discussion this weekend. He told them that the BJP would do everything to derail the discussion and the George Soros issue is only a diversionary tactic.
Sources say the Congress has a team which is devising out-of-the-box campaigns to ensure that the anti-crony capitalism charge gets public attention and gathers eyeballs. There is also a possibility of a Bharat Jodo Yatra 3.0 to raise the issue as well as that of “faulty" EVMs across the country.
But, has Gandhi’s staunch stand divided the INDIA bloc unity? Seems like it.
The only time the alliance parties came together was when Congress decided to take on Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and move a no-confidence motion against him. The 90 signatories were from Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and DMK. The second time the parties were on the same page was when they demanded smooth running of Parliament.
On the Soros issue, it’s clear that the allies are not bothered to break their silence. A senior leader said: “If Rahul Gandhi is only concerned about his issue, then why should we bother to defend them. To each his own."
KAUN BANEGA CONVENOR?
It’s not just this issue which is dividing the INDIA bloc. Those coming out in favour of Mamata Banerjee to take charge are increasing. Apart from TMC, SP, NCP, AAP and now RJD support her as they feel she has the track record to show she can defeat the BJP. But for the Congress, a coalition minus Rahul Gandhi as head is unimaginable.
A truncated opposition and an adamant Rahul Gandhi have only made things easier for the BJP.
