US President-elect Donald Trump's wife, Melania, refused an offer to visit the White House and meet First Lady Jill Biden.
Peeved at the Biden administration's past raid on her family's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part of the probe into the classified documents, Melania Trump took the decision, a source familiar with the matter told The Washington Post.
“Jill Biden’s husband authorised the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting,” the source was quoted as saying by The Post in its report.
“Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet,” the source added.
Earlier this year, Melania Trump described the raid on her Mar-a-Lago estate as an “invasion of privacy,” calling it a warning that Americans' freedoms and rights deserve respect. Donald Trump later added that Melania felt “very violated” as FBI agents searched through her belongings.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are scheduled to meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
Conventionally, when the outgoing President hosts the incoming President-elect in the Oval Office, the first lady holds a tea meeting for her successor in the residence of the White House.
In 2016, after her husband's election victory, Melania visited the White House, where the then First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a tea for her in the Yellow Room. However, Melania broke the tradition in 2020 as she did not meet with Jill Biden after her husband's defeat. This was followed after Donald Trump ignored Biden, declining to invite him to the Oval Office meeting while delaying the transition process.
However, Joe Biden has promised a peaceful and orderly transition to the incoming Trump administration.
