Rahul Gandhi Says Will Analyse 'Unexpected' Maharashtra Results, Thanks Jharkhand Voters For Big Win

'The results of Maharashtra are unexpected and we will analyse them in detail,' says Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking on the party’s debacle in the Maharashtra Election s 2024, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the poll results are “unexpected" and the MVA alliance will analyse its performance comprehensively in the state. However, he thanked the people of Jharkhand for a huge win of the INDIA alliance in the state.

In Maharashtra, the Congress party has secured only 15 seats out of the total 288 in the Assembly elections, compared with 44 in the previous 2019 elections. Its alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi, has won a total of just 49 seats, whereas its rival BJP-led Mahayuti Alliance has swept the state winning 235 seats as against a total of 288.

In Jharkhand, the Congress’ INDIA alliance has posted a significant win securing a total of 56 seats out of a total of 81 seats in the state. Its biggest partner JMM got 34 seats, while the Congress party alone won 16 seats, apart from other allies’ win.

“Heartfelt thanks to the people of Jharkhand for giving a huge mandate to India. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Chief Minister Hemant Soren ji, all the workers of Congress and JMM for this victory. This victory of the alliance in the state is a victory of the protection of water, forest and land along with the Constitution," Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.

On the Maharashtra debacle, he said, “The results of Maharashtra are unexpected and we will analyse them in detail. Thanks to all the voter brothers and sisters of the state for their support and to all the workers for their hard work."

Apart from this, his sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi received a historic victory from Wayanad, in by-polls. Succeeding Rahul, she defeated the nominees fielded by the ruling Left and the BJP with a huge margin of over 4.1 lakh votes.

On Priyanka Gandhi’s record win, Rahul Gandhi in another post on X said, “I feel immense pride as my family in Wayanad has placed its trust in Priyanka. I know she will lead with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to transform our cherished Wayanad into a beacon of progress and prosperity."

Other senior Congress leaders also gave their reactions to the Assemble Elections results on Saturday.

Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Indian Congress, in a post on X said, “Jai Johar! The people of Jharkhand have given priority to the issues of their rights, water, forests and land. They have rejected divisive and false politics. They have defeated the game of misuse of constitutional institutions. Thanks to Hemant Soren ji and all the leaders of the alliance. Heartfelt gratitude to every Congress worker. We have to fight for social justice, raise the voice of the people, and form an accountable government. Confidence remains intact, coalition government!"

On the Maharashtra results, he stated the results of Maharashtra are unexpected. The party is trying to get to the bottom of these results and understand the real reasons.

“We thank our leaders, workers and supporters. We are true representatives of the ideology of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Shahuji, Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar, the fight is long and we will continue to raise the issues of the people," Kharge added.
