Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s coalition, Jatiya Party, headquarters in Dhaka, was vandalised and set on fire amid clashes on Thursday night. The office was partly damaged, witnesses said.
The Jatiya Party, founded by late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, was a part of the Awami League-led Grand Alliance, and participated previous three general elections despite major party BNP boycotted.

Clashes erupted when protesters carrying the Chhatra Sramik Janata banner marched with a torch procession in front of the Jatiya Party’s central office in the Kakrail area, the heart of the capital Dhaka.
The fire service responded promptly and extinguished the blaze. A large group of protesters gathered in front of the Jatiya Party office after protesters vandalized it, damaging the sign and defacing a picture of party founder Ershad, according to witnesses. Police and military personnel were deployed at the scene.
“We were passing the Jatiya Party office in a torch procession when members of the Jatiya Party threw bricks at us from the roof," stated Shakiluzzaman, a leader of Gono Audhikar Parishad, a political party involved in the movement against Sheikh Hasina. “The Jatiya Party set fire to their own office and fled. They acted as a proxy for the fascist Awami League in the elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024," he added.
“We, the students, workers, and citizens, have declared that we will not permit the Jatiya Party to hold any rallies," he continued.
The Jatiya Party has not yet commented, but they are expected to issue a formal response later today. Two months ago, a student-led movement resulted in the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following weeks of protests and clashes that left over 600 dead. Hasina, 76, fled to India on August 5, and an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was subsequently formed.
