Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Nifty index breached its 200-day moving average (DMA) of 23,535, closing down 324 points at 23,559. The BSE Sensex also faced steep losses, dropping 984 points to close at 77,691. The Nifty Bank index, reflecting the financial sector's struggles, fell 1,069 points to 50,088, while the midcap index declined by 1,457 points to settle at 53,801.
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: BSE-listed companies saw their market capitalisation shrink by ₹8 lakh crore on Wednesday, bringing the total investor wealth loss over the last three sessions to nearly ₹20 lakh crore. This decline brings the Nifty down by 10% from its all-time high achieved on September 27, with 46 out of 50 Nifty stocks ending the day in the red.
Auto and metal stocks were among the worst hit, with stocks like Hero MotoCorp, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics Ltd. (BEL), and Shriram Transport reporting losses. The Volatility Index (VIX) climbed by 7%, surpassing its key levels at both the 100 and 200 DMAs. Several major stocks, including Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, and Adani Enterprises, turned negative for the year.
