In a marathon interview with American podcaster Joe Rogan, former US President Donald Trump expanded on his usual rally rhetoric, covering a broad range of topics in his characteristically eclectic style. Trump, in a nearly three-hour conversation on 'The Joe Rogan Experience', criticised his Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, spoke about overhauling the tax system, and repeated his unsubstantiated 2020 election fraud claim.
On the podcast, Trump criticised Vice-President Kamala Harris, calling her a "low IQ person". "She couldn’t put two sentences together" in her interviews, said Trump, contrasting her with what he described as his own "dynamic oratory style".
"Kamala is a very low IQ person. She has a very low IQ, you know. I am for taking tests too. I think anybody who runs for president should take the test," he said.
Trump’s speeches often involve what he calls "the weave", a method of moving through multiple themes without losing track. “When you do the weave, look at this, just in this one thing, we’re talking about little pieces,” he explained, prompting Rogan to respond, "Gotta get it back home."
“No, no, it comes back home for the right people," Trump added.
The conversation followed the same winding approach as Trump’s rally speeches, touching on subjects ranging from his TV days on "The Apprentice" and an appearance on "The View" to historical musings about Abraham Lincoln.
Reiterating campaign themes, Trump proposed drastic tax changes, suggesting the US could drop income taxes entirely in favour of tariffs, before pivoting to comment on Tesla owner Elon Musk's endorsement of his candidacy.
"He gave me the nicest endorsement," Trump said, referring to Musk. "You should do the same thing, Joe, because you cannot be voting for Kamala. You’re not a Kamala person. I know you."
Trump also reiterated his unsubstantiated claims about fraud in the 2020 election, in which he was defeated by Joe Biden. "I didn’t lose, but they say I lost, Joe," he asserted, a statement that has been widely discredited.
When Joe Rogan pressed for evidence, Trump alleged irregularities with the ballots in Wisconsin and that Democrats "used Covid to cheat".
"I lost by, like, I didn’t lose," said Trump.
The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast, one of the most popular and influential podcasts in the US. The podcast, which was released on Rogan's YouTube channel, clocked over 1.4 crore views within 15 hours of its release.
Joe Rogan had also invited Kamala Harris to his podcast, but her campaign spokesperson said the Vice-President won't appear on the program.
