As the US presidential election draws near, the latest polling data suggests that former president Donald Trump is leading against Vice President Kamala Harris in every swing state by narrow margins.
The survey conducted of likely American voters, who will decide the fate of the US presidential candidates, revealed that Republican nominee Trump is leading against Democratic Harris in North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
The survey of likely American voters from AtlasIntel found Trump garnered 52.3 per cent support to Harris’ 45.8 per cent in Arizona; 51.2 per cent support from likely voters to Harris’ 46 per cent in Nevada; 50.5 per cent support to Harris’ 47.1 per cent in North Carolina.
Similarly, Trump is leading 50.1% to 47.6% over the Democrat in Georgia; 49.7 per cent to 48.2 per cent in Michigan, 49.6 per cent to 47.8 per cent in Pennsylvania; and 49.7 per cent to 48.6 per cent in Wisconsin, making it the closest contest between Trump and Harris.
Overall, Trump has secured a lead of 49 per cent to 47.2 per cent over Harris, according to the poll which claimed that several of the swing states are within the poll’s two-point margin of error.
AtlasIntel claims in its poll that it was the most accurate during the 2020 election cycle, successfully predicting the outcomes in every swing state within the margin of error.
The latest polling data comes just two days ahead of the much-anticipated election day, which will follow a chaotic and highly polarized campaign cycle that featured two assassination attempts against Trump and President Biden exiting the race.
Harris Outpaces Trump In New Lowa Poll
According to a stunning new poll, Kamala Harris has overtaken Donald Trump in Lowa, a state that Trump won decisively in both 2016 and 2020.
The remarkable shift observed in the Selzer poll conducted for the Des Moines Register, released on Saturday, can be attributed to women and older voters.
The Selzer poll, which surveyed 808 likely voters between October 28 and 31, shows Harris ahead of Trump by 47% to 44% in a state that has leaned heavily Republican in recent years.
The Trump campaign criticised these findings and highlighted another poll released on the same day that shows the Republican candidate with a ten-point lead in the state.
What Are Swing States?
Will America elect its first female president, or will Donald Trump win a second term in office? Well, its answer goes with the mood of the seven swing states, which haven’t historically aligned with any of the two parties and could sway either way.
The seven states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—account for 93 electoral college votes. Pennsylvania has the most at 19 votes, followed by Georgia and North Carolina, each with 16, and Michigan with 15.
Swing states, commonly referred to as battleground states, are defined by their unpredictable voting behaviours, frequently changing between Democratic and Republican candidates.
These states feature a diverse array of demographic groups, economic interests, and cultural perspectives, resulting in shifting voter preferences from one election to another.
Several opinion polls have pointed towards a dead heat between both Trump and Harris in the 2024 presidential polls which will be conducted on November 5.
