A woman found that her house was broken out by a burglar who decided to feel at home and finished several household chores of her part including cleaning clothes and cooking a meal. He left the house with a creepy note, “Don’t worry, be happy, eat up and scratch.”
The Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday sentenced the burglar, Damian Wojnilowicz, 36, to 22 months of jail for conducting the unusual burglary in Monmouthshire on 16 July.
The incident left the woman scared as she returned to her home to only find that items had been moved in the garden and her recycling bin had been emptied.
‘Was Too Scared To Live In My Own Home’
Soon after she returned home and found that her house had been broken into by a burglar, she spoke to her neighbour who described seeing someone hanging out washing.
“Two weeks after the crime until he was caught, I was living in a state of heightened anxiety I had never experienced before,” the woman was quoted as saying in a personal statement by BBC.
“I wondered if it was somebody who knew me if it was going to turn into a stalking incident if he knew I lived alone and if I had been targeted,” she added.
“I was too scared to stay in my own home and stay with a friend.”
Burglar Left Her Glass of Wine
The complaint stated that Wojnilowicz unpacked a pair of shoes and discarded the packaging in the recycling bin. Similarly, he replaced toothbrush heads and kitchen utensils.
He then emptied the grocery shopping bag and placed the items inside the refrigerator. He didn’t stop and went on to rearrange the fridge.
He also refilled bird feeders, removed plant pots, moped the floor and kept an empty bottle of wine in a rack.
Before leaving the house, the burglar cooked a meal on her stove using the ingredients from her kitchen store. When the victim returned home, she saw a bottle of red wine
When the woman returned home, she saw a bottle of red wine had been left out, next to a glass and bottle opener, and a bowl of sweets was lying on the living room table.
