Video shows Canada cops 'punching' Hindus, 'beating them with batons' at temple

After a pro-Khalistan mob attacked a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada on Sunday, videos surfaced online showing law enforcement clashing with temple goers amid the chaos.

A video shared by journalist Daniel Bordman on X shows Peel Police officers apparently using force and assaulting members of the crowd, some of whom were waving the Indian Tricolour.

According to Bordman, the officers were at the temple to restore order following altercations between Khalistani supporters and members of the Hindu community but were seen "punching" temple goers and "beating them with batons", seemingly without provocation.

In the footage, one woman points out a bearded officer, accusing him of assaulting people, and criticises police for allegedly targeting only Hindu community members while shielding Khalistani protesters.

As the situation escalated, the crowd chanted "take him out" and "get out," with tensions running high outside the temple grounds.

The temple was hosting a consular camp, co-organised by the High Commission of India, when the incident occurred. A mob, carrying flags associated with pro-Khalistan groups and wielding sticks, disrupted the event and targeted members of the Hindu community, including women and children.

Peel Regional Police addressed the protest on X, stating that police presence was beefed up at the temple to maintain public order. Chief Nishan Duraiappah stated, “We respect the right to protest in a peaceful and safe manner but will not tolerate violence and criminal acts. Those that do participate in this activity will be pursued, arrested and charged.”

Police later told CBC Toronto that no arrests were made, and they provided no further details on the social media videos or the incident itself.

Indian-origin MP Chandra Arya expressed outrage over the incident and raised questions about potential infiltration of law enforcement agencies by Khalistani elements.

"A red line has been crossed by Canadian Khalistani extremists today," Arya said in a post on X. "The attack by Khalistanis on the Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how deep and brazen has Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada. I begin to feel that there is a small grain of truth in the reports that in addition to Canadian political apparatus, Khalistanis have effectively infiltrated into our law enforcement agencies."

Canadian leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, also condemned the violence at the Hindu temple.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa issued a statement expressing "deep disappointment" over the incident, stating, "We have seen violent disruption today (Nov. 3) orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp."

The statement further noted concerns for the safety of Indian nationals and mentioned similar attempts to disrupt consular camps held in Vancouver and Surrey on November 2-3.
