China wants Trump to become US president: Indian-American Congressman

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said that China was hoping that Donald Trump would win the US presidential election to weaken America by causing internal divisions. Krishnamoorthi cautions that Trump's policies would lead to trade wars, job cuts, and Americans fighting each other, exactly what China desired.

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has said that China is rooting for Donald Trump to win the upcoming US presidential election in November. Speaking at the Democratic Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Krishnamoorthi said China's strategy is to weaken the US by causing internal divisions.

"Mark my words, they want to see Donald Trump across the bargaining table. Because he'll start endless trade wars that raise prices for Americans. Because he'll cut programmes that train workers in America. But most of all, Trump will hit American against American. And that's what China wants, for us to fight amongst ourselves," Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat, said.

Krishnamoorthi currently serves as the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, referenced a book titled "America Against America" by a senior Chinese leader. He highlighted China's belief that it can only defeat the US if Americans turn against each other.

Krishnamoorthi, who has represented Illinois' 8th Congressional District since 2016, is the only Indian-American Congressman to address the DNC. He was born in New Delhi and raised in Peoria, Illinois, after his family immigrated to the US when he was just three months old.

His district includes a significant Indian-American and Asian population.

During his speech, he further emphasised the importance of unity, quoting Kamala Harris, the Indian-origin politician and Democratic presidential candidate.

Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, officially accepted the nomination at the Democratic Convention (DNC).

"When we fight, we win! Kamala Harris understands that our strongest fight isn’t American against American. She knows that when we come together as one nation, we win. When we unite as one team, we win. That’s why, when Kamala Harris wins in November, we all win," Krishnamoorthi said.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will contest the US presidential elections on November 5.

If Kamala Harris wins the US presidential polls, then she will become the first woman president in the history of America.
