The United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) had a key role in the crisis in Bangladesh, which led to Sheikh Hasina’s exit, according to top intelligence sources. CNN-News18 was the first to report about Hasina’s possible resignation from the post of Prime Minister.

According to sources, United Kingdom-based David Burgan, activist Pinaki Bhattacharji, Bangladesh ist Party’s (BNP) Tarique Rehman and Netra News owners were the “key coordinators”. “They managed a social media campaign against her. They were the ones behind the army movements and starting a fake narrative on social media,” they said.

Hasina was not keen on supporting the West. “She had given a statement that the US wanted to make a Christian country, like East Timor, taking parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar and with a base in Bengal. She also claimed that a “white man” who met her before the Bangladesh elections in January this year had assured her of everything and that she would face no problems during elections. They only wanted to build an airbase,” said sources.

Sources said a fake narrative against Hasina was created by the US with respect to “free and fair elections”. “The US also put Bangladesh’s elite RAB under sanctions for human rights violations. They have huge penetration in the BNP. Accused of corruption in Bangladesh, Nobel laureate Yunus Hasan of Gramin Bank is also based there and is a lobbyist in the US,” sources said.

Another reason was her proximity towards China in the eyes of the West. Tarique, meanwhile, has assured the West that once he is back to power, he will not keep ties with China and will give way to the West in Bangladesh, said sources.

Another strategy is to keep the region unstable as it will also create problems for India and India will be engaged in Myanmar, Bangladesh, the Maldives and China, said sources.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, too, played a major role, which worked directly and indirectly for the West, said sources.
