Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stated on Saturday that he would not debate his Democrat counterpart Kamala Harris at all if she did not agree to attend a Fox News debate slated to be held next month. However, the Harris campaign responded to Trump's proposition, stating that the former US President is trying to evade the debate set to be run on ABC News, news agency Reuters reported.

Taking to his official Truth Social handle, Trump stated, “I’ll see her on September 4th, or I won’t see her at all."

Doubling down on his proposition, Trump during his rally in Georgia said, “We’re doing one with Fox, if she shows up.”

“I don’t think she’s going to show up,” he added, claiming the Democrat's candidate “can read a teleprompter” but can’t speak off the cuff.

A day earlier, the Republican candidate withdrew from an ABC News-hosted debate on September 10. Earlier in May, the former president confirmed his participation in the event after he and President Joe Biden mutually agreed to expedite the debate schedule. Both leaders also exchanged sharp remarks, each asserting their readiness to debate one another at any time and in any location.

Taking a dig at Donald Trump, Kamala Harris stated, “It’s interesting how ‘any time, any place’ becomes ‘one specific time, one specific safe space’.”

She added, “I’ll be there on September 10th, like he agreed to. I hope to see him there.”

Meanwhile, Harris spokesperson Michael Tyler stated that Trump is "running scared" and expressed the campaign's willingness to consider additional debates following the September 10 event, which both campaigns have already agreed to.
