Maharashtra Prepares for Elections With Key Meetings in Mahayuti & MVA to Shape Seat-Sharing Talks

Key political meetings in the ruling Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are shaping the political landscape as Maharashtra gears up for assembly elections. Both alliances are focused on resolving crucial seat-sharing agreements ahead of what promises to be a high-stakes electoral battle.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s ist Congress Party (NCP), has been holding intense discussions over how many seats each party will contest in the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly. These talks are vital as the MVA aims to present a unified front to counter the ruling Mahayuti. A three-day meeting in Mumbai is expected to yield a final formula on seat allocation, which will be pivotal in their strategy to challenge the incumbent government.

Simultaneously, the Mahayuti, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, is working on its own seat-sharing arrangement. One-on-one discussions between the leaders are ongoing to settle their party’s claims over specific constituencies. Fadnavis and Pawar, Pawar and Shinde, and Shinde and Fadnavis have been engaged in individual talks to iron out differences. Once the initial seat allocations are settled, a joint meeting of the three leaders is expected to finalise the deal.

However, if a deadlock emerges over contentious constituencies, the final decision will rest with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sources indicate that Shah’s decision will be binding for all parties within the Mahayuti, helping to ensure a swift conclusion to negotiations.
