Neuralink has developed a unique brain chip that helps specially-abled people with motor skills using their mind, which including using a computer.

Neuralink aims to help people with disabilities to function normally with the use of their mind. And the first instance of this brain chip technology doing its work has been shown in a live stream video on Wednesday. The video shows the human who got the first Neuralink brain chip implant is able to play chess on his laptop, without the need for a mouse or keyboard and just using his brain.

The video has been shot by one of Neuralink’s engineers named Bliss, who gave everyone a chance to see the brain chip doing what it is supposed to in a live demo of sorts. You can also see in the video the man, Noland Arbaugh, implanted with the brain chip, talking about being paralysed below the shoulders, which means, he cannot use his fingers to move the mouse that would actually help him play the game in a natural way.

The person talks about his freak accident that happened 8 years ago, after which he dislocated his C4 and C5 which is near the base of the neck.

The person with the brain chip also refers to the difference made by the technology which now enables him to do things that he wasn’t able to do for many years.

He even managed to stop the music playing in the background using his mind which is really cool to say the least. The 9-minute long video was streamed via X, which is also owned by Elon Musk.

The whole process of the person able to control the laptop’s cursor with his mind started by learning to control these actions using the chip implanted in his brain. Arbaugh also shares his experience of playing Civilisation VI for many hours, which he thought was never going to be possible after his tragic accident.

He even mentions the surgery which got the brain chip implanted in him was super easy but he mentioned the tech needs a lot of work to become a reliable source of treatment for many like him in the future.

Musk has talked about the potential of the brain chip developed by his company, and instances like these suggest, people with certain disabilities, including, unable to see, could actually start doing things the normal way.
