A United Airlines flight was diverted to Washington Dulles Airport on Sunday morning after a “biohazard” situation onboard caused crew members to vomit and passengers to request masks.

Flight 2477, which was en route from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Boston, had to make an unscheduled landing in Washington, DC, the New York Post reported.

The diversion occurred after a passenger fell ill, leading to a severe reaction that affected both the crew and other passengers, according to United Airlines.

Radio traffic from the flight indicated that the situation was critical. “The crew is vomiting, and passengers all around are asking for masks,” a crew member reported.

The crew member added that the situation warranted an immediate landing due to the biohazard. The aircraft landed safely at Washington Dulles Airport. None of the 155 passengers or six crew members required medical attention.

United Airlines confirmed that the plane is undergoing a deep clean and stated efforts are underway to get passengers to Boston as soon as possible. This story is developing and more information is awaited in this regard.
