Harbir K Bhatia, CEO of the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the pivotal role of Indians in driving innovation in America’s tech industry, citing their renowned ‘jugaad’ spirit.
“They just have to put a limit otherwise we could take up all the jobs,” she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Bhatia explained that the US imposes visa caps on Indians due to their exceptional skills, which could otherwise lead to a dominance in job placements. She said India’s significant contribution to innovation in Silicon Valley, noting that 40% of CEOs or founders in the region hail from South Asia or India.
Furthermore, Bhatia underscored the influence of Indian immigrants and Indian-Americans in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, attributing their success to cultural values like a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset. She emphasised that Indians excel not only in tech but also in various sectors like hospitality, entertainment, and healthcare.
