Video: Cops Remove Palestinian Flag, Hoist Star-Spangled Banner At New York College Campus

NYPD officer Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry re-hoisted the American flag and also led an impromptu ceremony to mark the event.

New York Police Department officers re-hoisted the American flag at the City College of New York (CCNY) on Tuesday a week after anti-Israel protesters removed it and replaced it with a Palestinian flag at the Harlem Heights campus.

The video of the flag being re-hoisted was shared by NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry. He described the moment as an ‘incredible scene and proud moment’.

“An incredible scene and proud moment as we have assisted @CityCollegeNY in restoring order on campus, culminating in raising Old Glory once again on their campus flagpole,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry wrote on X.

Pro-Palestinian protesters hoisted the flag at last week soon after they set up an encampment at the public institute.

NYPD officers were seen standing atop the base of the flagpole as they removed the Palestinian flag, ripped it from the rope and tossed it onto the group. Daughtry then raised the American flag and held an impromptu ceremony.

Not very far away, following requests from the Columbia University officials, NYPD officers mounted a tall ladder on a reinforced truck to penetrate the Hamilton Hall which was taken over by pro-Palestinian protesters.

The Ivy League college — home of the student movement against the Vietnam War in the late 1960s — has for two weeks been the epicenter of anger over Israel’s war on Gaza.

Police arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters as university officials said that those who participated in the takeover of the will face criminal charges.

Over the past two weeks, American student anger has spread from the major universities on the East Coast to those in California, via the South and Central regions, recalling the anti-Vietnam War protests of the late 1960s.
