Vivo V30 Pro gets the Zeiss Optics lenses and a slim design

Vivo V30 Pro gets the Zeiss Optics-coated lenses for its quad-rear camera setup, a slim design profile but with support for fast-charging battery.

Vivo’s V series is finally getting the Zeiss Optics love, which translates into quality imaging prowess that the Rs 40,000 segment has been eagerly waiting for. The Vivo V30 Pro benefits from the big camera upgrades without shedding its focus on design and comfort. Vivo’s tryst with MediaTek for the Xseries has made it comfortable enough to offer it on V-series once again.

The company also has given us better front cameras for selfies than regular shoots with the V models over the years. Vivo V30 Pro’s upgrades come at a cost, with the model now selling for a starting price of Rs 41,999 which puts it in the affordable flagship category. So, what does Vivo bring to the table with the V30 Pro that makes it worth considering for buyers.

All Eyes on The Cameras

Vivo is extending the reach of its Zeiss Optics collab and offering the cameras on the V30 series now. We have already tested their quality on the X90 Pro and X100 Pro in recent times, so we know what to expect. But can Vivo translate that flagship quality into another category? During our tests, we noticed the same Zeiss Optics quality where the colours look natural, the details are crisp, albeit with a slightly different set of Sony lenses.

Vivo pointed out the lenses get coating from Zeiss Optics and we can say the impact of these lenses are positive in all ways. The tuning with the software can be tweaked to get better results. But it is hard to argue with the package on offer, and the lenses stand out in most conditions thanks to the redesigned Aura light that adds more depth and clarity to photos in low-light situations.

Premiumly Packaged

Vivo’s V-series has primarily looked at slim design and the selfie camera over the years and some of its aspects have been retained for the V30 Pro as well. You get a slim and tall form factor with its 7.45mm thin body that can be unwieldy and less grippy because of the dimensions and weight of 189 grams.

The textured finish at the back does look premium but given the choice, we would use any other phone as our primary, purely because of its delicate nature combined with the 3D curved display which has been notorious for its handling issues.

Solid Performer

Vivo is powering the V30 Pro with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. This is a tried-and-tested hardware combo that fares well in most conditions and can handle daily tasks with ease, while also allowing you to play casual games every now and then.

The V30 Pro was never aimed at the power users, who have better options in the market for this price, but for most people, the hardware under the hood of the V30 Pro should suffice.

Talking about the software, the V30 Pro runs on the Funtouch OS 14 version that feels lighter than the previous versions, however, the pre-loaded apps aka bloatware is still around.

We noticed apps like Netflix, PhonePe, Snapchat and LinkedIn were installed, while Vivo’s own suite of apps converged with Google’s offerings. The overall feedback of the OS is quite smooth and we didn’t notice any jitters that can make the experience salty.

The ‘Pro’ At Lasting Long

Vivo manages to fit a large 5000mAh battery on the V30 Pro which is a big feat in engineering. The built-in battery manages to control the heating to a large extent and the chipset offers its thermal management expertise to get the phone lasting for long hours. You also have the 80W charging support that allows the phone to get charged up in quick time, something that Vivo tends to offer on most of its premium phones.

Vivo V30 Pro has taken the price leap with all the upgrades and definitely the quad-rear camera setup. But people looking for an all-rounder might be inclined to look at other options but for shutterbugs and design purists, the V30 Pro is a solid choice.
