US President Donald Trump on Monday reduced the 50-day deadline he initially set for Russia to initiate a truce in the Ukraine war, expressing disappointment in Vladimir Putin’s actions.
“10 or 12 days from today… We just don’t see any progress being made," the US President said. He had earlier threatened to reduce the deadline or face “severe" economic sanctions, saying he was disappointed in Putin for not committing to a ceasefire.
“I’ve spoken to President Putin a lot. We got along really well… We thought we had it settled numerous times, and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills people in a nursing home or whatever. Bodies lying all over the street," he told reporters alongside British PM Keir Starmer and his wife at his luxury golf course in Turnberry, Scotland.
“I am very disappointed in President Putin. Very disappointed in him. I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number because I think I already know the answer to what’s going to happen," he added, without giving a new deadline.
