The Shiv Sena MLA belonging to the Shinde camp sparked a row last year after he offered a reward of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who chops off Rahul Gandhi's tongue.

Sanjay Gaikwad is Shiv Sena MLA (Shinde faction) from Buldhana in Maharashtra.
Amid the ongoing “slapgate" controversy, an old video of Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has surfaced on social media in which the MLA from Buldhana in Maharashtra offered a reward of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who chops off Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s tongue.
The Shiv Sena MLA belonging to the Shinde camp, now in the news for a viral video of him assaulting a canteen staff over the quality of dal, last year announced the reward amid the political row over Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the reservation system.
Gaikwad’s video came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s “India is not a fair place" remark. During an interaction at a US University, the Leader of the Opposition said, “We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place and India is not a fair place."
Following Rahul Gandhi’s comments, Gaikwad, while addressing the media, said, “While he was abroad, Rahul Gandhi said that he wanted to finish off the reservation system in India. This has exposed the true face of the Congress. I will reward anyone who cuts off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue with Rs 11 lakh."
The remarks then raised a political storm, leading to a police complaint registered against the lawmaker.
The Shiv Sena leader in 2024 also sparked a controversy after he claimed he had hunted a tiger in 1987 and has been wearing its tooth around his neck. Following his claim, the state Forest department seized the accessory and booked him under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The Slapgate Row
A Shiv Sena legislator recently stoked a fresh row after he allegedly assaulted a canteen staff member at the MLA Guest House in Mumbai. Gaikwad was unhappy with the quality of food being served.
In response to the poor quality food served to him, he allegedly confronted the staff and, along with others, assaulted one of the canteen employees.
