Tim Walz said he was “praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence," though he gave no immediate details on casualties or the condition of those inside the school.

US President Donald Trump said he had been “fully briefed" on the incident. Writing on Truth Social, he noted that the FBI had “quickly responded and they are on the scene", adding that the White House would continue to monitor developments.

“Please join me in praying for everyone involved," he wrote.

“We will share more information as soon as we can. Please give our officers the space they need to respond to the situation," he added.
