Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three suspects in connection with the attack on a Hindu trader, Khokon Das, in Shariatpur district on December 31, officials said on Sunday.

The accused — Sohag Khan (27), Rabbi Molla (21) and Palash Sardar (25) — were arrested from Bajitpur in Kishoreganj district by a special operational team of the RAB earlier in the day. Officials said the suspects were identified during the course of the investigation, following which special teams were formed to track them down.

According to the RAB, all three arrested men have prior criminal records, including cases related to drug offences and other criminal activities. The agency said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events leading to the attack and to identify any other persons involved.

The attack on Khokon Das had drawn attention amid broader concerns over incidents targeting members of the Hindu community in parts of Bangladesh. Authorities said the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and maintain law and order.
