Despite the strong tremor, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Further details are awaited

India’s Centre for Seismology and the US Geological Survey both recorded the earthquake's magnitude as 5.5.
A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 in magnitude struck Nepal early on Friday morning, with tremors felt across the Kathmandu valley and several regions of the country.
The earthquake occurred at 02:51 NST, with its epicentre located in Bhairavkunda, Sindhupalchok district, near the Himalayan mountain range on the border with Tibet.
According to Nepal’s Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1. However, the German Research Center for Geosciences reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 5.6, with a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), while India’s Centre for Seismology and the US Geological Survey both recorded it at 5.5.
The tremor caused widespread shaking, with people in several parts of Nepal, particularly in the eastern and central regions, reporting to have felt the quake. Areas along Nepal’s border with India and Tibet, China, also experienced the tremors, Nepal News reported.
In India, according to several news reports, the tremors were felt in locations such as Siliguri in West Bengal, Sikkim, and Patna in Bihar.
Despite the strong tremor, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Further details are awaited.
Nepal remains one of the most seismically active regions in the world, lying in zones IV and V of the tectonic scale, which makes it highly vulnerable to earthquakes.
The most devastating earthquake to hit Nepal in recent history happened in 2015 when a magnitude 7.8 earthquake claimed more than 9,000 lives and caused widespread destruction to over a million structures.
