7-Year-Old Boy Among Several Injured After Car Goes Flying Into Barn Roof In Germany

The car collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge and hit the boy on a trampoline before it went flying into the barn roof.

A 7-year-old boy was among several people injured after a vehicle veered off a road and went flying into a barn roof on its side in northwestern Germany. Two people, including the child, were seriously injured, while others received minor injuries.

According to police, the car collided with a parked vehicle in the town of Bohmte, broke through a hedge and drove into a garden where it hit the boy on a trampoline. It then went over uneven ground and was catapulted into the air, before crashing into the roof of a neighbouring barn about 3 m off the ground.

The boy was seriously injured, along with the wife of the 42-year-old driver of the car. Their two sons, ages 11 and 12, and a 13-year-old passenger were also on board, who like the driver received minor injuries.

An emergency response was launched, involving dozens of firefighters, approximately a dozen ambulances, and two air ambulances. Images from the scene showed emergency crews cutting through the roof and dealing with the wreckage of a playground that the vehicle had crashed through.

The car was hoisted off the roof by crane before being taken away by police. A formal investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
