After a break of 20 years, two estranged cousins—Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray—shared one stage in Worli on Friday. The event was not just a union of two parties but also two families.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son and party leader Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s son and party leader Amit Thackeray were also present on the occasion.

A video shared by ANI shows the cousins smiling as they shared the stage, while NCP leader Supriya Sule—also present at the event—held Aditya and Amit’s hands and guided them to stand beside their uncles, symbolising a moment of family and party reunion.

Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray on Friday said that he and Uddhav decided to join hands as Maharashtra was more important to them than fights and politics.

“I had said in one of my interviews that my Maharashtra is bigger than any politics and fight," he said.

“Today, after 20 years, Uddhav and I have come together. What Balasaheb could not do, Devendra Fadnavis did… The work of bringing both of us together," mentioned the MNS chief.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said he and MNS head Raj Thackeray have come together to stay united as the cousins shared a political stage for the first time after two decades on the issue of Marathi identity and “imposition" of the Hindi language.

Addressing a “victory" rally in Worli here to celebrate the rollback of the Hindi language GRs (resolutions) by the BJP-led government, Uddhav hinted at contesting the upcoming civic elections together.

“We have come together to stay together. We will together capture power in the Mumbai civic body and Maharashtra," he said, evoking loud cheers from the crowd in the packed NSCI Dome.
