Strike on terror funding: India wants to ensure Pakistan's IMF aid is stopped and it is put on FATF grey list. News18 accesses points India may raise to cut their economic lifeline
Pakistan has received 24 bailouts recently and also more than 1.3 billion dollars in multiple aids.
As India gives a befitting response to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor, there is another operation for which it is burning the midnight oil — to ensure the country is deprived of its economic lifeline.
After hitting Pakistan domestically through snapping of trade ties and Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), India now wants to tell the world, that if Pakistan is given funds, it would only stoke terror.
The critical Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting is scheduled late at night, Indian Standard Time (IST).
While earlier a verbal communication was given to the IMF, India wants to ensure that aid is cut and Pakistan is put on the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list. So another more aggressive response has been prepared for the meeting.
News18 has accessed some of the points to be raised by India’s representative at the IMF.
The first thing the IMF stakeholders have been told is that they “must see what Pakistan has been doing".
The IMF, and other multilateral development banks like Asian Development Bank (ADB) provide aid and funds to countries to help with development projects and work. Pakistan has received 24 bailouts recently and also more than 1.3 billion dollars in multiple aids.
India plans to ask — Where has this money been used? Where is the development?
India will tell the stakeholders that there has been a noticeable spike in Pakistan’s defence spending in the past few months. If the country needs additional funds for development work, where has the money for defence come from, India plans to ask.
“It is clear that the money Pakistan is getting as aid is being used to fund terror," said the top source.
In the past few hours, India has been seeing multiple posts from Pakistan, suggesting that it is reeling under poor economic condition because of Operation Sindoor.
But government sources say that India thinks Pakistan playing the victim card and the world should see their lies.
Finally, the point which will be made is that Pakistan’s terror outfits are connected to other terror organisations such as Hamas.
“Not just India, the world will be affected if Pakistan keeps getting funds. It is up to the conscience of IMF to cut the economic lifeline to Pakistan," the source said.
