Donald Trump’s tariff tactic to bring countries down to sign a trade deal with the US has come under criticism from all corners of the United States, the latest to join this chorus is his former vice president in the first term – Mike Pence.
Pence, whose refusal to block certification of Joe Biden’s Presidential election win in 2020 caused a strain in his relationship with Trump and his supporters, has advised the President to carry out “free trade with free nations", arguing that it is the American consumers who pay the cost of tariffs imposed on imports from other countries.
“American Companies and American Consumers Pay the Cost of American Tariffs. Free Trade with Free Nations," Pence tweeted, while sharing a news article from Reason, that read “Ford Paid $800 Million in Tariff Costs Over 3 Months, Despite Building Most of Its Cars in America".
