The terror attack on Tuesday in the scenic tourist town of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead, has pushed diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan to their lowest point in years. New Delhi has blamed Islamabad for the attack, accusing it of supporting “cross-border terrorism", while Pakistan has dismissed the claims as “frivolous".
Indian authorities have also identified the attackers as members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based group recognised as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations. In response, India has taken several firm measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty – a key water-sharing agreement between the two nations.
As the political and military tension escalates, social media has become a battleground of its own—filled with memes and humorous comments, especially from the Pakistani side.
On Indian social media, users have been expressing intense anger over the attack, while some Pakistani users have gone viral for their humorous and self-deprecating takes on the situation, revealing both fear and frustration with their own government.
One Indian user shared several screenshots of Pakistani users on X, with one comment reading, “India is gonna bomb us." Another comment read, “Dear Indians, Karachi per hamla karna ho toh mobile phone India mein he chor kar aana."
Meme culture quickly gained momentum, with many viral posts poking fun at India’s threat to cut off Pakistan’s water supply. Several memes exaggerated how Pakistanis might react to the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
Meanwhile, one Pakistani user described their fellow citizens as the ultimate coping mechanism, remarking: “Pakistanis are so f****** hilarious literally have the best humor, mfs can turn every situation funny. peak coping mechanisms hai ye hamaraa."
Another Pakistani user joked about the threats to nuke Lahore, commenting: “Funniest part of it is Indians threatening to nuke Lahore coz they think it’s an important city for Pakistanis. Meanwhile Pakistanis are like…" followed by a GIF of Bollywood actor Nana Patekar casually waving his hand, as if saying, “chal chal" (get lost).
One Pakistani user shared a video of a desi uncle doing dramatic karate moves as if like he’s preparing for a big fight. While another quipped, “Jung karni ho to 9 baje se pehle karlena 9:15 per gas chali jati hai hamari (If you’re going to start a war, do it before 9 AM. Our gas supply cuts off at 9:15)."

Adding to the hilarity, one Pakistani user joked: “guys war bhi hybrid model pe dubai main hogi ya india iss baar pakistan araha hai? (Is this war going to be hybrid and held in Dubai, or is India actually coming to Pakistan this time?)"
