Google I/O 2025 keynote was all about Gemini AI, Veo 3 and Android XR

Google I/O 2025 keynote this week was mostly about Gemini AI, AI assistant, AI search and some Android. Some of the biggest upgrades for Gemini users was on showcase which will be eventually coming to all users. Google realises that with Apple’s struggle with AI, it has the right window to jump in and help iPhone users with these features using the Gemini app. And now, Gemini Live camera share feature is available for free on both Android and iOS devices.

The AI image generation tools, video AI functions and audio edit tools are also getting the Gemini 2.5 Pro boost this year. Here’s a detailed look at the top 5 highlights from the Google I/O 2025 keynote:

Gemini Live Free For All

Gemini Live screen feature that lets you use the phone’s camera to show a book or a cafe and get a response is now available for free on Android as well as iOS devices. Android users get the Gemini app by default while iPhone users can get the app from the App Store, login with their ID and try out the free AI feature. The company is also going to make it work with Gmail, Docs and more.

Gemini Live screen is also helpful with suggestions and advice in case you are stuck with a complex math’s problem or a mechanical issue. Google has demoed its ability quite a few times and the conversational nature of Gemini AI makes it a worthy upgrade.

AI Mode For Search

We’ve heard about Google bringing a new AI mode to Search and now it is official. Google is offering the new AI mode for Search users in the US from this week onwards, and other regions are expected to get it later this year. The company is integrating Project Mariner into this product which will help you buy and track ticket prices, and other AI tasks that will be handled by Gemini.

The New Video-Audio AI Power

Google also introduced the new Veo 3 video generational model that now combines videos with audios based on the prompts fed by the user. The new AI model is also getting better with image prompts to give you visuals with characters that do clear lip syncing that makes it almost movie-like quality.

You can add audio inputs like traffic noise in the background of a busy street, and have an engaging conversation between the AI generated characters. Going by the yearly advancements, we are not far away from AI tools like Veo 3 and Sora helping movie companies make full-fledged content.

Android XR For Headset And Glasses

Android 16 was showcased at the Android Show earlier this month which meant Google I/O 2025 became the platform to announce more news about the Android XR platform. Google has confirmed that the Samsung XR headset will be coming later this year.

It also gave us a closer look at the Android XR smart glasses which look similar to the functions of the Meta Ray Ban glasses that have been a surprising hit in the market.

More AI Plans With Gemini

Gemini subscribers will get the chance to try out the new features with unlimited access thanks to the new Pro and Ultra plans for the AI model. The Pro version has been around for a while and now the Ultra version priced at $249.99 per month gets you the Gemini app with 2.5 Pro Deep Thinking and Veo 3 support. You get 30TB storage bundled with the plan, NotebookLLM with highest limits, Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids apps and yes, Gemini in Chrome.
