In a strong message at the United Nations, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called out Pakistan, stressing that state-sponsored terrorism must be exposed and held accountable. Speaking at the UN’s anti-terrorism exhibition, Jaishankar urged the global community to unite against the growing threat of terrorism.
“Any state sponsorship must be exposed and must be counted," Jaishankar said, in a veiled yet pointed reference to Pakistan. Highlighting recent incidents, he reminded that five weeks ago, the UN Security Council issued a strong condemnation of a horrific act of terrorism in Pahalgam, demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Jaishankar outlined the core principles the world must rally behind: “No impunity to terrorists, no treating them as proxies, and no yielding to nuclear blackmail." He called terrorism “one of the gravest threats to humanity" and declared it the “antithesis of everything that the United Nations stands for."
The minister further added, “When terrorism is supported by a state against a neighbour, when it drives a whole host of illegal activities, it is imperative to call it out publicly. One way of doing so is to display the havoc that it has wreaked on global society."
Jaishankar’s remarks have been widely seen as a clear diplomatic signal, urging the international community to take concrete steps against nations that use terrorism as a tool of foreign policy.
