Asim Munir said I saved millions in India-Pak conflict, it was beautiful: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again repeated his claim that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, asserting that his intervention prevented a major conflict from escalating. He said Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir told him he "saved millions of lives" and called the move "beautiful".

"The prime minister of Pakistan was here along with the field marshal, who's a very important guy in Pakistan. And he said to a group of people, 'This man saved millions of lives because he stopped the war from going on,'" Trump said. "That war was going to get very bad. I was very honoured. I love the way he said it. Susie Wiles [White House Chief of Staff] was there. She said that was the most beautiful thing. But we saved a lot of them."

Trump claimed that the hostilities had been escalating for four days, with reports of seven planes being shot down. "India and Pakistan were going at it, and I called them both. And in this case, I use trade. I'm not going to trade with you. You start two nuclear nations. Big nuclear. No, no, no. You cannot do that," he said. "You go into this freaking war and I stopped it."

Just like in August, this time too, Trump did not specify which side lost the seven jets.

India, however, has consistently denied Trump's version of events, maintaining that the understanding on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two militaries.

Adding another layer to Pakistan's false narrative, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed during his recent UN General Assembly speech that his air force had shot down seven Indian jets during the May skirmish, saying, "Our falcons took flight and turned 7 Indian jets into scrap."

Satellite imagery, however, confirms that Indian strikes inflicted heavy damage on Pakistani airbases, destroying hangars and runways, while Pakistan's retaliatory efforts were largely unsuccessful.

Trump also expressed frustration that he may not receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his role, suggesting it could go to someone who "didn't do a damn thing." Yet he emphasised that his primary goal was not personal recognition. "I don't want it. I want the country to get it," he said.
