Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir is under heavy protection during his visit to Washington, and authorities have requested him to change his place of stay amid protests, sources have told CNN-News18. Munir is staying in private accommodation for security reasons, sources said. At a dinner held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Sunday evening, many guests cancelled their attendance at the last minute out of concern for their safety.

Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who is on a visit to the United States, faced protests as a group of people shouted “shame on you, mass murderer" and “shame on you, dictator" upon his arrival at a hotel in Washington.

Asim Munir has been accused of ordering violent crackdowns on Imran Khan’s party, PTI, after 2023. Thousands of PTI workers were arrested, with many reportedly tortured or disappeared. Protesters have blamed him for “suppressing democracy" and “rigging" the 2024 elections. Protesters allege Munir removed Imran Khan from power by leveraging military pressure and used military courts to punish civilians and silence critics. Under his leadership, the media was heavily censored, and journalists, human rights activists, and opposition members were targeted, protesters say. Protesters claim he controlled both the government and judiciary from behind the scenes.

PTI supporters have organised protests in Washington DC, New York, and London, using digital vans and billboards to call Munir a “mass murderer" and “fraud marshal". They assert that Munir uses Pakistani money to sponsor billboards featuring his own image in Times Square. They question whether any other army general in the 21st century has exhibited “such extreme low self-esteem". Protesters argue that the US should engage with the Pakistani democratic government as they do with the Indian government, and not with Munir.

Imran Khan remains isolated in jail, which is a cause for concern among his supporters. People have travelled from different parts of America to protest against Munir and show solidarity. They argue that the Pakistan army has never won any war but has won every election. Protesters claim that families in Pakistan and Pakistanis abroad are being targeted by ISI and Asim Munir because they support the rule of law, an independent judiciary, and the release of Imran Khan, who they believe is illegally arrested.

Asim Munir is meeting high-ranking officials and other security officials in the USA. Protesters claim they have evidence that he has “massacred" a large number of Pakistanis and later attacked Afghanistan in the same month, killing innocent children and women. They accuse him of creating unrest within Pakistan for his own benefit.
