The Muhammad Yunus-led government in Bangladesh has expressed its wish to join US President Donald Trump’s Internal Stabilisation Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, effectively following in Pakistan’s steps, sources told CNN-News18.

Trump’s 20-point peace plan calls for a force from Muslim nations, including Pakistan, to oversee a transition period for reconstruction and economic recovery in the war-torn Gaza, which was decimated by two years of Israeli bombardment. Many countries are wary of the mission to demilitarise the Hamas group in Gaza, which can enrage their pro-Palestinian populations.

Bangladesh’s Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman held meetings with senior US officials at the US State Department in Washington, where he said that Dhaka is ready to send its forces to Gaza, as per top intelligence sources.

The meeting was also attended by Sergio Gor, US Ambassador to India, and the US Special Envoy for South Asia and Central Asian Affairs. Bangladesh’s NSA received a green signal from the US to deploy troops for the stabilisation force in Gaza.

Khalilur Rahman also briefed US officials on domestic and regional issues, along with Bangladesh’s potential role in the Gaza peace force. They also discussed the country’s upcoming elections, bilateral trade, the Rohingya crisis, and rising relations with Pakistan.

Why Is Bangladesh Sending Troops To Gaza?

Bangladesh is offering troops or security cooperation for Muslim-world conflicts to secure strategic indulgence from Washington, top intelligence sources told CNN-News18. US officials have already assured full support for Bangladesh’s troops in Gaza.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus aims to use the move to consolidate his domestic constituency, particularly with the Jamaat-e-Islami, which has long supported the Palestinian cause. By backing Trump’s Gaza peace plan, the Yunus administration is seeking US acceptance for a long transition period.

The interim leadership also wants to manage local elections before moving to national polls scheduled for February 12. Sources said Bangladesh’s offer for troops in Gaza and its high-level engagements with Washington are more about validating the interim authority internationally than operational deployment.
