Students have once again taken to the streets in Bangladesh. Students of many colleges in the capital Dhaka vandalised the Government Shahid Suhrawardy College in protest against the death of a medical student. A crowd of students entered the Suhrawardy College campus and vandalised 6 vehicles there. After this, a crowd of protesters moved towards Kabi Nazrul Government College and tried to attack the college, but could not enter the college campus. During this, a clash also took place between two groups, in which 30 people were injured.

Protesters also attacked the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where negligence led to the death of 18-year-old Abhijit Halder, a student of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mullah College, on November 18. Protesters broke the gates and glass panes of the hospital.

What led to this?

On November 16, Abhijeet, a class 12 student, was admitted to the hospital after suffering from dengue, where he died on November 18. On November 19, his roommates Siam and Aftab posted on Facebook that he died due to wrong treatment in the hospital. On November 21, his friends protested in front of the hospital, during which many college students also joined them.

Army deployed in college hostels

On Sunday morning, students looted showrooms around Suhrawardy College. Following this, the army was deployed around colleges, hostels, and places of worship in Dhaka.

Suhrawardy College suffers loss of Rs 35 crore

Suhrawardy College principal Kakoli Mukherjee said that there has been a loss of about Rs 35 crore. " I blame myself as a principal and a teacher for not teaching basic manners to the students. Though they are from a different college, after all they are our sons. They celebrated by looting books, money, certificates, and documents, is this the work of a student? I tried to contact the police, but they said they were busy protecting the Medical College. Meanwhile, they attacked here. I had no choice but to save the college."

30 people were injured in the clash

The protesters alleged that during a demonstration on November 21 over Abhijit's death, students of Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College attacked students of Mulla College. Thousands of students from colleges including Mulla College, Dhaka College, City College, and Notre Dame College again gathered in front of the hospital and protested against the death of the medical student. During this, 30 people were injured in the clash.
