The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has said that the administration of Joe Biden had “released" Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, the man arrested in connection with the murder of a motel manager in Texas. He was released in January on a supervision order as Cuba “would not accept him because of his criminal history."
According to the official statement, the 37-year-old accused is being detained in the Dallas County Jail and has been identified as an undocumented immigrant.
The department noted that he is a Cuban national and was in ICE custody recently. It added that the case aligns with the Trump administration’s push to deport undocumented individuals to so-called “third countries," or locations where they may have no connections.
Cobos-Martinez, who reportedly confessed to the crime, killed the motel manager following a dispute over a washing machine. The victim, Chandramouli “Bob" Nagamallaiah, originally from Karnataka, asked Cobos-Martinez and a female colleague not to use the machine as it was broken.
Instead of communicating it directly with the accused, Nagamallaiah asked the female colleague to translate his instructions, which enraged Cobos-Martinez.
The horror was also captured on camera, and a video is going viral on social media platforms too. The gory clip shows the accused kicking the victim’s head twice before carrying it casually to a dumpster and placing it inside.
Reacting to the crime, the Consulate General of India, Houston, wrote on X, “The Consulate General of India, Houston, condoles the tragic death of Mr. Chandra Nagamallaiah, an Indian , killed brutally at his workplace in Dallas, Tx. We are in touch with the family and offering all possible assistance. The accused is in the custody of Dallas Police. We are following up on the matter closely."
