The celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) maiden victory in IPL final in 18 years, turned tragic after a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru claimed as many as 11 lives on Wednesday.
Soon after the tragedy, a political slugfest erupted with many leaders holding the Congress-led state government accountable for the incident.
Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi blamed the Siddaramaiah-led government for taking “urgent and unfortunate decision" while referring to gathering of crowd near the stadium.
Taking to X, Joshi tweeted, “Seven people died in a stampede in Karnataka. It’s heartbreaking to see such loss because of poor planning and crowd mismanagement. The state government in Karnataka has clearly failed in its responsibility. Celebrations is one thing, but the State government without proper planning, without taking emergency services into confidence, took this urgent and unfortunate decision. This could have been avoided. The Government is responsible for this and accountability needs to be fixed."
