Eduardo Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has alleged that the country’s top court has frozen his bank accounts and personal assets. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Eduardo claimed that the move was orchestrated under the orders of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

The accusation comes amid escalating tensions between Brazil’s judiciary and the Bolsonaro family, just as the Trump administration in the US intensifies its support for the former president. The White House has already announced travel restrictions and visa revocations for Justice de Moraes and his close allies. According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the move is in response to what Washington sees as a “political witch-hunt" against Jair Bolsonaro.

Adding to the diplomatic standoff, the US is set to impose 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods starting August 1. The administration has also urged President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to drop the ongoing criminal charges against Bolsonaro, who is currently under investigation for allegedly plotting a coup to overturn the 2022 election results.

Now, Eduardo Bolsonaro has accused the Supreme Court of targeting him financially as part of a broader effort to silence critics. He further claimed that his wife, who is not involved in the case, was also affected by the asset freeze. “If he thinks this will make me stop, I make it clear: I will not be intimidated, and I will not be silenced. I prepared myself for this moment," Eduardo wrote in defiance.

According to CNN Brasil, the Supreme Court authorised the measure last week, citing Eduardo’s efforts to rally international support for his father in the US. Reacting to the court’s decision, Eduardo described it as “another arbitrary and criminal act," accusing Justice Moraes of using “illegal rulings to shield himself from justice. Like every dictator."

Former President Jair Bolsonaro remains under heavy legal scrutiny. Justice de Moraes has ordered him to wear a tracking anklet to prevent a possible escape attempt. Bolsonaro is also banned from using social media, with the court warning that any violation could result in immediate arrest.

However, after Bolsonaro recently appeared in an interview displaying his tracking device, Justice de Moraes summoned his legal team to explain the potential breach of court orders, according to Brazilian news outlet G1.

Meanwhile, Bolsonaro’s supporters are planning mass street protests on August 3, rallying against what they call the unfair and politically motivated treatment of the former president.
