Users on Chinese social media are clearly fans of Elon Musk – being hailed as a bold rebel taking on US President Donald Trump as tensions between the two escalated. Users rallied behind the billionaire tech mogul as he threatened to form his own political party and slammed Donald Trump’s massive tax-and-spending package, which passed the Senate despite heavy criticism.

Elon Musk called the bill “insane" and vowed to launch a third party – dubbed the “America Party" – if Donald Trump continues on his current path. Elon Musk also pledged to oppose any lawmaker who supported the bill, which is projected to increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion.

Trump-Musk Feud On China’s Social Media

The feud quickly spilled onto Weibo, China’s dominant social platform, where the hashtag #MuskWantsToBuildAnAmericaParty exploded to over 37 million views.

“If Elon Musk were to found a political party, his tech-driven mindset could inject fresh energy into politics," one user posted, while another said, “When you’ve had enough, there’s no need to keep putting up with it." The most shared comment read, “Brother Musk, you’ve got over a billion people on our side backing you."

Elon Musk- A Tech Hero In China

Elon Musk’s influence in China extends well beyond his political antics, as Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory – the company’s largest globally – is a national symbol of Western tech success operating within China. Elon Musk is widely respected for his perceived pragmatism, innovation and diplomatic skill, including his warm relationship with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

That admiration intensified amid Elon Musk’s clash with Donald Trump, who remains deeply unpopular in many Chinese circles for launching a bruising trade war and for his unpredictable political style.

“One is trying to colonize Mars, the other can’t stop yelling on Earth," wrote a user in a widely shared post, while another quipped, “These two are basically live-streaming America’s midlife crisis."
