A school teacher from the US state of Tennessee was sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping a 12-year-old boy inside her home. Alissa McCommon, a fourth-grade teacher in Tipton County, was pregnant with the child of the 12-year-old who she raped at the time of the sentencing, according to a report by the New York Post.
McCommon is being charged with a slew of crimes and pleaded guilty to charges related to five of her possible 21 potential victims. One of the victim’s families told the teacher to “burn in hell".
The educator pleaded guilty to one count of rape of a child, statutory rape, sexual exploitation of minors and solicitation of minors.
Circuit Court Judge Blake Neill sentenced McCommon to 25 years in prison, ruling that all sentences would run concurrently and denying the possibility of parole.
McCommon will be required to register as a Violent Sex Offender following her sentence and has been prohibited from contacting any of her victims. Additionally, her teaching license has been permanently revoked.
Local US news outlet WREG reported the accused built relationships with the students she met in the classroom, by playing video games, following them on social media and befriending their mothers.
It said that she was fond of the 12-year-old, whom she called over 200 times and sent explicit photos to over Snapchat and also threatened to kill herself if he broke off his relationship with her.
The investigation into McCommon began in 2021, and in 2023, a mother reported receiving inappropriate texts from the teacher to her son. McCommon was suspended from the school without pay on August 24, 2023.
In September 2023, she was arrested following a 23-count indictment involving multiple sexual offenses against several students, according to Tipton County District Attorney Mark Davidson.
McCommon was granted bail but was re-arrested less than a month later for violating her bail conditions by contacting one of her victims.
McCommon reportedly told one of the boys that she was pregnant with his child.
In a call played in court, McCommon, who already had two children, expressed her readiness to welcome their alleged child into the world.
DNA evidence later confirmed the boy as the father, according to WREG. However, a judge ruled that McCommon would have no contact with the infant.
The victim’s mother, who has custody of the child, stated that the newborn would not be influenced by McCommon and said that the educator must face the consequences of her actions.
“The innocent child will be loved and raised without your influence. There’s no amount of time they can give you that will equal what God will give you. You will burn in hell," she said.
