The Democratic Party won only eight seats in the 2025 Canada elections, losing its national party status. Leader Jagmeet Singh was among the key challengers to Carney.

As the polls for the Canada elections 2025 closed, the Democratic Party failed to secure even 12 seats, thus losing the party’s national status.
The NDP contested on 343 seats, but secured just eight, as the polls closed.
The party had secured 24 seats during the previous election.
Jagmeet Singh, a leader of the NDP, hails from a religious minority and was one of the four main candidates who vied against Mark Carney to be the kingmaker in the country’s next government
