Chaos erupted at Liverpool FC's victory parade on May 26 when a car crashed into pedestrians on Water Street. A 53-year-old man was detained, Merseyside Police confirmed.

Chaos prevailed in England after a car crashed into Liverpool Football Club fans during its victory parade at Water Street on May 26, said police. Simultaneously, a 53-year-old British man was arrested.
As per media reports, 47 people sustained injuries. Out of them, 27 people were taken to hospital where they were provided treatment. Out of those 27, two people, including an adult and a child were grievously injured. This incident unfolded when the soccer fans were celebrating Liverpool’s victory in the Premier League Championship.
Caught on Cam: Liverpool Fans Hit By Car
The entire incident was recorded on camera. It is widely being shared on social media platform X. In the video, a car can be seen running amok and hitting several Liverpool fans who were a part of the football club’s victory parade. According to AP, tens of thousands of fans had gathered for the hours-long procession under heavy security along a 10-mile (16 kilometer) route.
The Merseyside Police said that they received the information regarding the incident that took place on Water Street at around 6pm on May 26. The police mentioned that after the car driver ploughed into the pedestrians, he halted the car and he was detained.
Soon after the crash, police and ambulances rushed to the scene.
It is learnt that the impact of the crash was such that four individuals were stuck beneath the vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters.
Taking to X, the Merseyside Police said, “We are currently dealing with reports of an RTC in Liverpool city centre. We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Mon 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male detained.(sic)."
Later on, the Merseyside Police also held a press conference following the incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.
‘Appalling’: UK PM Terms Crash As Shocking Incident
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also responded to the incident, calling the scene “appalling."
Taking to X, Starmer wrote, “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident(sic)."
“I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.(sic),he further wrote on X.
Liverpoll FC Reacts
The football club also expressed condolences over the tragic incident, saying they were in touch with police. It also offered its “full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

Reacting to the tragic news, Liverpool FC official page tweeted on X, “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident (sic)."
