An 8-year-old girl was miraculously rescued after being swept into a sewer by floodwaters in China’s Guizhou province. According to officials, the girl went missing after school and was believed to have fallen into a drainage ditch amid intense rainfall.
China Fire, the country’s national fire and rescue agency, said the girl was found trapped inside the sewer system after being carried away by powerful currents. She survived by holding onto a horizontal bar in the pipe and remained trapped there for over seven hours. Local authorities reported that the girl was found alive and showed “no obvious serious injuries," despite the ordeal.

Flooding Ravages Guizhou
Guizhou has been experiencing what officials describe as the most severe flooding in 50 years. According to state-run media outlet Xinhua, at least six people have died and over 80,000 residents across Rongjiang and Congjiang counties have been evacuated. The floods caused significant damage to public infrastructure, blocked roads and disrupted essential services. The Chinese government allocated 100 million yuan for disaster relief efforts aimed at restoring roads, flood control systems, hospitals and schools.
The Guizhou Meteorological Service warned that more heavy rain were on the way as the government put a Level III emergency response, the third-highest in a four-tier alert system, in place.
