AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who has been very vocal against Pakistan after the heinous terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, took a dig at Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s threatening remarks on the Indus Waters Treaty suspension.

Zardari, while addressing a public meeting in Sukkur, Pakistan’s Sindh province on Friday, threatened India with “blood" if India did not follow the 1962 treaty and allow water to flow to Pakistan. “The Indus is ours and will remain ours — either our water will flow through it, or their blood," he said.

His remarks came after India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced a series of measures, including expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and immediate shutting down of the Attari land-transit post in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which took place on April 22.

In addition to this, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, during the rally, also claimed that India was falsely blaming Pakistan for the terror attack.

‘Bachpane Ki Baatein Nahi Karna’

When asked about Bilawal’s remarks, Owaisi told reporters, “Arre chhodo… bachpane ki baatein nahi karna (Leave it, don’t make childish remarks). He does not know what happened to his grandfather."

“He does not know what happened to his valda (mother). His mother was killed by terrorists at least he should not be making such remarks. Does he even know what he is saying?" he added.

Notably, Bilawal’s grandfather and former Pakistan President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was arrested and executed in 1979 in connection with a controversial murder case during the regime of military dictator Gen Zia-ul-Haq. The trial was widely criticised for lacking fairness and due process. The Supreme Court admitted this in March last year.

One of the most popular leaders of the country, Zulfikar was removed from power by his handpicked army chief Zia, and was accused of masterminding the murder of a political rival, Ahmed Reza Kasuri. He became the first former Pakistani PM to be hanged.

Bilawal’s mother Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan, was assassinated at the age of 54 in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. Extremist groups in Pakistan had opposed her liberal policies.

Owaisi’s Salvo At Pakistan

Earlier, Owaisi slammed Pakistan for its response to the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it the “successor of ISIS" as the killings of innocent tourists took place on religious lines.

Reiterating that terrorists asked the religion of the people before killing them – as revealed by the survivors of the attack – Owaisi said that “killing innocent people asking their faith is not in our religion".

The AIMIM MP has typically faced backlash from saffron party supporters, but his remarks on Pakistan since the terror attack have won him praise on social media after he held Pakistan responsible for the attack.

India imposed a series of diplomatic measures against Pakistan in light of the Pahalgam terror attack, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of all visas to Pakistani nationals and closing Attari border immediately, among other steps. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed the “harshest response" to all terrorists and their masters.
