China on Tuesday confirmed that it has received the invitation from the US to be part of Gaza ‘Board of Peace’.
Replying to a question by Russia’s RIA Novosti on whether Beijing received invitation to join the board of peace, foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said: “Chinese side has already received the invitation from the US side."
However, Beijing is yet to confirm whether it would accept or decline the invitation.
The Trump administration has invited political leaders, diplomats and business figures from about 60 countries, including India, Jordan, Canada, Hungary, Vietnam, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Albania and Paraguay, to join the new board, as part of a US-backed and UN-supported plan to demilitarise and rebuild the territory after two years of war between Israel and Hamas.
The Gaza ‘Board of Peace’ is a proposed international transitional mechanism aimed at managing Gaza in the aftermath of prolonged conflict. Its core objective is to support stabilisation, reconstruction, and civilian governance while preventing a power vacuum.
The body is envisioned as a temporary arrangement involving international stakeholders, regional actors, and Palestinian technocrats to oversee aid delivery, rebuilding of infrastructure, and basic administration. It is not meant to replace Palestinian political aspirations but to create conditions for long-term peace, security, and economic recovery in Gaza during a sensitive post-conflict phase.
According to reports, A draft charter circulated to invited countries reportedly states that if a country contributes about US $1 billion in cash within the first year, it would not be limited to a standard three-year term and could effectively have a permanent or extended seat on the board. Without such a contribution, countries can still be members — typically on a three-year term that may be renewed by the board’s chairman.
Meanwhile, the US President is preparing to formally establish a newly proposed “Board of Peace" for Gaza, with a signing ceremony expected as early as Thursday during his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
An invitation that has been shared online suggests the event is imminent, even as some allied governments privately express uncertainty about whether they will participate.
