Chrome is the most popular web browser in the market and it continues to invite unwanted attention with its series of risks. And Google’s web browser and its users in India have got another major security threat and the alert for this issue came via the Indian government a few days back.

The latest Chrome security warning dated February 16, 2026 has been posted by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity ranking, which is never to be taken lightly, especially if Google itself is worried about the risks posed by some vulnerabilities.

Chrome Security Issue: What Is The Full Story?

The CERT-In bulletin this week explains the root cause of the issue with the browser and how it can impact the users. “The latest vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to Use-After-Free condition in the CSS component of Chrome’s rendering engine. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML webpage. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system."

These are very important components built into the structure of the Chrome browser and the issues are serious enough for Google to take notice, same for the Indian government authorities.

Chrome Security Issue: Who Is At Risk?

Chrome users on Windows, MacOS and Linux are being warned about the risks and these versions have been mentioned:

Google Chrome versions prior to 145.0.7632.75/76 for Windows/MacGoogle Chrome versions prior to 144.0.7559.75 for Linux

If you Chrome on your system and their version is one before these, we advise you to update the browser immediately.

Chrome users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
