According to a CIA official, the US was not just interested in counterintelligence but was also seeking information on advanced science and China's foreign policy secrets.

The CIA on Thursday released two videos in Mandarin targeting Chinese officials. The videos encourage China to leak secrets to the US.
The two videos were posted on the social media accounts of the CIA. It features fictional scenes in which a senior Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official and a more junior government worker with access to classified information become disillusioned with China’s system and approach the CIA.
Speaking to Reuters about the video, a CIA official said, “If it weren’t working, we wouldn’t be making more videos."
