The Congress on Monday moved to initiate privilege proceedings against Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju accusing him of misleading the Parliament by attributing what it called “false statements" to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
DK Shivakumar, while speaking about a bill which provided a 4% quota to Muslims in public contracts in the state on News18 India Diamond States Summit 2025 on Sunday, said that the “constitution will be changing". His remarks sparked backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and the issue was also raised in the parliament by Rijiju and his fellow partyman Ravi Shankar Prasad.
“The NDA party has taken very serious note of the statement given by a senior Congress leader who is holding a Constitutional position and he has clearly stated that the reservation in contracts to the Muslims is a step towards providing reservation and other facilities to the Muslim community and for that, he has clearly stated that the Constitution of India would be changed. His statement is very clear," Rijiju had said.
