PM Modi said the countdown for the MK Stalin-led government in Tamil Nadu has begun, and the state wants a BJP-NDA government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasised that Tamil Nadu is ready for change and seeks to replace the corrupt DMK government. He said the countdown for the MK Stalin-led government has begun, and the state wants a BJP-NDA government.
Addressing a massive rally in Madhuranthakam, Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister accused the DMK of becoming a “CMC government" – which supports corruption, mafia and crime – adding that the government will be uprooted and a BJP-led government was inevitable in Tamil Nadu.
“The massive crowd here has given a strong message to the state and the country that Tamil Nadu is ready for change and wants to get rid of the corrupt DMK government," he said. “Our aim is to liberate the people from the DMK government, and the countdown for its exit has begun."
The enthusiasm at Madhuranthakam reflects a clear mood. Tamil Nadu wants freedom from DMK’s misgovernance. The NDA is the people’s preferred choice. https://t.co/8gUpScYWMk— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) January 23, 2026
PM Modi alleged the DMK government does not care about democracy and accountability, and only works to appease a family. “Opportunities for advancement within the DMK seem limited, often favouring those connected by dynasty or those willing to engage in corruption, mistreatment of women, or disrespect of our culture. This has had serious consequences for Tamil Nadu, as the state suffers from the effects of these actions," he added.
‘DMK Betrayed People’s Trust’
“You have given DMK a clear mandate twice. But they have betrayed the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu. DMK made heaps of promises, but the work remained zero," he said. “We have to liberate Tamil Nadu from the chains of the DMK. The sooner Tamil Nadu develops, the sooner India develops."
On the occasion of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary, he recalled how several freedom fighters of Tamil Nadu fought the battle of independence. He also paid respects to former Tamil Nadu CM MG Ramachandran during the rally.
He said when the Congress government was in power at the Centre before 2014, very few funds were released for Tamil Nadu, but the BJP government has released three times more funds for the state’s development. “During the DMK and Congress government at the Centre, there used to be scams in the name of development schemes. SCs, STs and OBCs were neglected."
“Over the past 11 years, the NDA-led central government has provided Rs 3 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu through devolution. This amount is three times greater than what was allocated during the coalition govt in the centre. In the last 11 years alone, thousands of crores have been directed towards the welfare of the poor in Tamil Nadu," he added. He also called DMK the “biggest enemy" of Tamil culture and accused it of targeting Hindus to appease its vote bank.
‘DMK Pushed Youth Into Drugs’
The Prime Minister accused the DMK government of pushing the youth of Tamil Nadu towards drugs and the drug mafia. “Mothers are worried about their children. Parents are seeing their children’s future being destroyed. The drug mafia has been targeting schools and colleges."
He also pointed to allegations of the DMK government working in cahoots with the drug and mafia government, which raised red flags for Tamil Nadu’s future. He appealed to people to vote for the NDA, assuring that the alliance would end the dominance of the drug mafia and create new job opportunities.
“While the drug and liquor mafia is flourishing under the DMK, the biggest priority for the BJP has been on healthcare. The NDA will also transform Tamil Nadu’s healthcare and encourage an ecosystem of pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturing. The Centre’s Mudra Yojana has been most beneficial for people here, with Rs 3 lakh crore assistance to small entrepreneurs."
