A speech by US comedian and conservative YouTuber Alex Stein at a Plano City Council meeting triggered sharp backlash after he mocked core Hindu religious beliefs, with several Indian-American attendees exiting the chamber in protest. The episode has ignited a wider debate about cultural respect and rising anti-Indian sentiment online and in parts of the US right-wing milieu.

Stein, known for provocative stunts and commentary, appeared at the council session clad in a yellow kurta, black shorts, slippers and a red tilak on his forehead. He introduced himself in a self-styled persona as a “young Indian boy" from the “holy land of India far, far away," before launching into a series of jibes about Hindu customs, particularly cow worship and the use of cow dung and cow urine in traditional healing contexts.

He repeatedly referenced cow dung and urine sarcastically, asserting that “cow is divine mother… her urine, gomutra is the purest form of medicine… and her dung, gobar, is holy gold," before veering into an unrelated critique of his neighbourhood homeowners’ association and claims of persecution by the “Muslim Brotherhood."

Stein also pivoted to US politics, thanking President Donald Trump for appointing FBI Director Kash Patel and labelling the Indian-American community as “proud" of the choice. He made an offbeat aside on Patel’s personal life, referencing his relationship with country music singer Alexis Wilkins and mockingly expressing a desire for an “authentic Indian marriage."

Some members of the Indian-American audience walked out mid-meeting, visibly offended by Stein’s remarks and his caricaturing of Hindu beliefs. A video of the speech circulated widely on X under the caption “Young Indian boy begs the Mayor of Plano for help, stop the attacks from the Muslim Brotherhood and his HOA association."

In the US political sphere, certain far-right commentators and online figures have drawn scrutiny for anti-Indian, anti-Asian and xenophobic commentary within MAGA subcultures. One prominent example is Nick Fuentes, a far-right influencer whose followers are known as “groypers," a faction engaged in provocative online harassment. In recent frictions, Fuentes made disparaging remarks about Republicans including those of Indian heritage, leading to rebukes from mainstream conservatives.

In one instance, Vice President JD Vance publicly condemned racist attacks directed at his Indian-American wife, Usha Vance, telling critics including Fuentes they could “eat s-t" for their bigoted comments. Fuentes responded by baiting Vance with mocking references to Indian food and culture.
