The Pakistan Army has frequently made headlines for controversial reasons, including accusations of autocracy and its role in promoting terrorism. It is often blamed for fueling instability in neighboring India by supporting militant groups.

The Pakistan army has also been widely criticised for undermining civilian authority, acting independently of the government. Many are of the view that its substantial share of over 20 percent of Pakistan’s budget is a significant contributor to the nation’s ongoing poverty.

The army’s internal weaknesses have been widely discussed, notably its internal instability and the perpetual fear of rebellion. Some reports indicate that the Army is deeply entrenched in corruption. It has been observed that when the Pakistani Government attempts to improve relations with neighbouring countries, the army often sabotages these efforts through conspiracies.

1. Internal Instability And Fear Of Rebellion

Recent allegations have exposed internal discord and inefficiency within the Pakistan Army. A leaked letter reveals that lower and middle-level officers have accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of corruption, inefficiency, and political harassment, hinting at a potential rebellion. This raises serious concerns about the army’s unity and discipline.

2. Soft Corner For Terrorism

The Pakistan Army is also accused of having a soft corner for terrorism. The international community often condemns the Army for its role in nurturing terrorists for proxy wars.

3. Involvement In Non Military Activities

Moreover, it has been found that the army’s involvement extends beyond military activities into politics, real estate, and various industries, including food chains and TV drama production. Critics argue that these ventures distract the army from focusing on national security.

4. Corruption Allegations

Corruption allegations persist against senior army officials. Investigations such as the Panama Papers and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) have exposed Swiss bank accounts of several generals containing millions of dollars. This diminishes the army’s credibility and fuels public discontent. Additionally, it has been reported that the quality of training and food for soldiers has declined, affecting their fitness.

5. Leveraging Kashmir Rhetoric And Anti-India Sentiments

Some political commentators have expressed that the Pakistani army often exploits Kashmir and anti-India sentiments to divert attention from internal issues. Recently, Army Chief General Asim Munir referred to Kashmir as the “jugular vein of Pakistan." Coincidentally, this was followed by terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. Such actions are believed to be attempts to mask strategic failures.

6. Questions On Army’s Fitness

According to some reports and social media posts which have not been confirmed, the enthusiasm and fitness levels of Pakistani soldiers are deteriorating, particularly in regions like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These conditions reportedly impact the physical and mental health of soldiers.

Comparatively, many reports indicate that the nutrition and medical support available to Pakistani soldiers is inferior to that of Indian soldiers, further affecting their health and fitness.
